GRADUATION AND CERTIFICATION POLICY - LA CASA SHAMBALA 2025
To obtain your certification endorsed by Yoga Alliance, you must meet the basic requirements of the in-person course (Appendix 1), the basic requirements for passing the Practicum (Appendix 2), and the basic requirements for approval of the Online Pre-TTC Course Module (Appendix 3).
If you do not meet these requirements, you will not pass the course and will not receive a certificate valid with Yoga Alliance, nor will there be any refund.
If you do not receive the certificate, you may review your eligibility to submit a video and self-evaluation in order to receive your certificate after the course has ended (note additional teacher fees apply, please see Appendix 4).
APPENDIX 1: Basic Requirements for the In-Person Course
- 100% Class Attendance: Absence tolerance is limited to 3 hours for the whole 18 day course, which can be justified with a medical certificate or force majeure circumstances throughout the training. In case of illness or inability to attend due to force majeure, your medical insurance must cover the refund. We will assist as much as possible with the necessary paperwork for insurance claims.
- Active Participation, Attention, Questions, and Reflections: Full commitment and attention are required to certify for this course. The instructor has full discretion to determine whether a student has actively participated with full attention, and reflections throughout the course, as well as questions where relevant. If the instructor determines this requirement was not met, the instructor can decide not to certify the student.
- Respect for the Course Structure: Adhere to the structure of the course as proposed by the instructors.
- Respectful Communication: Use non-violent communication with all participants involved in the course. If any member feels disrespected or violated, they should immediately report it to the course manager. The manager and instructor have full discretion to decide whether the individual will continue the training. (Zero-tolerance violence policy).
- Respect for Venue Rules: Follow the venue’s guidelines established during the opening ceremony.
- Substance-Free Environment: As physical detoxification is a fundamental part of the course, the consumption of psychoactive substances, cigarettes, alcohol, and/or marijuana is strictly prohibited on the retreat premises. The instructor reserves the right to expel or withhold certification from any student who violates these basic rules.
Failure to meet these requirements will result in not receiving certification or a certificate of attendance. No refunds will be issued.
APPENDIX 2: Basic Requirements for Passing the Practicum
At the end of the onsite course, you must present a practicum demonstrating your teaching capabilities in Yoga, and this practicum must meet the following requirements:
- Teach a Hatha or Vinyasa Practicum: The practicum must be taught as a Hatha or Vinyasa class.
- Respect Class Timing: The class should last between 45 and 60 minutes, as instructed in the Teaching Methodology section of the course.
- Follow the Class Planning Template: Adhere to the guidelines provided in the “template to help you plan your class” section of the Teaching Methodology chapter in the manual.
- Demonstrate Ability to Teach with and without Demonstrations: You must be able to teach the class both with physical demonstrations and by using only your voice and body language without physical demonstrations.
- Manual Adjustments: Demonstrate knowledge of how to adjust students physically using your body and hands.
- Posture Alignment: You must show that you can align postures in students who need alignment corrections.
- Notes and Materials: You may have notes, but avoid actively reading from them. Use them as little as possible, and do not use electronic devices for notes.
- Music: You may use your phone for music, but not for reading notes. If you choose to use music, keep the volume low, with minimal vocals and distractions. Prepare your playlist beforehand—don’t select songs during the practicum. Music can distract from the practice, and mastering its use in yoga requires deep understanding. We suggest skipping music in your first class. Remember, you are enough just as you are.
- Clarity in Practicing and Teaching Sun Salutations: Your sun salutations should be rated at least 4 out of 5 for correct posture names and breathing. You must teach the sun salutations sequence stated in the manual. We cannot certify you as a Hatha or Vinyasa teacher if you do not have clarity in teaching sun salutations.
If the instructor determines that you did not meet the practicum requirements, you will not receive certification as a teacher, but you will receive an attendance certificate (which is not valid for Yoga Alliance certification).
APPENDIX 3: Basic Requirements for Approval of the Online Course
As part of your 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course, you will receive access to our online platform with content that forms an integral part of your course. This online course is designed to complement the in-person immersion and to ensure that you are well-prepared to dive deeper into the course content when you arrive at the in-person sessions.
As outlined in the Yoga Alliance core curriculum (available here), 200-hour Yoga courses approved by Yoga Alliance may have an online component.
By enrolling in this course, you will gain access to this online component, which will enhance your overall experience. The online course is designed to give you a solid foundation in yoga theory and teaching principles. This foundational knowledge will allow you to make the most of your time during the in-person training with the lead instructor.
The online course is part of the 200-hour certification requirement, alongside the in-person training. We believe this blended format offers flexibility without compromising the quality and depth of the training. For the past 8 years, we have successfully provided our Yoga Teacher Training Courses in full compliance with Yoga Alliance standards. We are confident that the in-person immersion will offer you a rich and fulfilling learning experience.
For your reference, the Yoga Alliance standards are attached here.
You must complete all videos and tests available on the online platform within 60 days after completing the in-person course. Upon uploading your certification to Yoga Alliance, we will verify that you have completed the online component before we approve the upload of your certification.
If, after 60 days, you have not completed the online course, you will need to submit a video and self-evaluation (Appendix 4) in order to make your certificate eligible for Yoga Alliance certification.
No refunds will be issued.
